Hoist The Anchor! It's Time To Set Sail!

It has been just over a year since I have slathered the most current, neck-breaking and headlining news across my website - but that's not to say my life has been absolutely placid and uneventful; quite the contrary, actually.  Ups and downs abound, I've lost my trusty vehicle to vandalism, gained a new respect for commuting by bicycle, begun working closer to home, saved up some money, paid off my ten-year strong credit card debts, lost my dear grandfather, bought some art, sold some art, had some friends visit and visited some friend - all the while working on a plethora of art projects.

So, now that I'm done overcoming the biggest hurdle I think I have ever tackled in life (that's the credit debt), I'm in prime position to spend less time slaving for wages and more time on developing my craft and evolving as an artist
.  I'm excited to know that I won't be weighed down by the anchor of financial obligations that could otherwise sink this passion for art.  I hope you all are ready to ride along with me as I embark on this life-long journey into creation and beyond.

As always, I want to thank everyone who has ever shown me support throughout the years, no matter how much or how little.  I couldn't have done it without the wonderful support of my lovely lady, nor my friends or my family who believe in me just for being me.  And certainly not without my fans who enjoy what I do.

Thank you, sincerely.

Pencil & Ink on Paper

2012 has been quite a rough year. Despite its many high notes (as grateful as I am for them), they have largely been overshadowed by the loss of two of my very good friends - Chad in June and Brad this December. The morning after I found out Brad had passed, I felt compelled to draw his portrait. I dedicate it to him and to those who knew him.

During the early impressionable years of high school, where kids just bumble about experimenting with and discovering talents, interests and peer groups, both Chad and Bradley came into my life and played integral roles in the development of my personality. Brad was an artist who loved music and skating - all common grounds that gave us a reason to hang out. Gradually, a crew accumulated and we all had many good times and got into a lot of good shit together.

Unfortunately, I hadn't seen Brad for about ten years since our crew grew apart and we went our separate ways...I ended up moving from Albuquerque to Portland.  I am truly heartbroken that he is no longer around. He was one of the individuals I just always assumed would be with us. I figured the least I could do to show my appreciation of his friendship was to honor his memory with a piece of art.

Thankfully, I was able to fly down home to Albuquerque and attend Brad's funeral ceremony in Rio Rancho. It was absolutely breathtaking to witness such a huge turnout of friends and family, all who showed to pay respects to this man. I started the drawing at home and carefully slipped it between the sheets of its parent tablet, ambling my way through three different airports to finally deliver it by hand to Brad's mother.

She was absolutely thrilled. I was absolutely humbled.

I thought it would be kind of nice to record the drawing process and create a time-lapsed video for Brad's friends and family to watch. Additionally, a few years ago, Bradley collaborated with Versatile Verse, an emcee from Albuquerque, for whom he sung the chorus on a song called "Every Morning." I couldn't think of a better song to score the video with. Check it all out below (preferably in HD).

Thanks for the good times, Brad. Merry Christmas.

Well, I've been neglecting my Facebook fan page, this website, my fitness - hell, even my own art and music - and pretty much everything else in between for the last couple of weeks.

After having to say goodbye to a dear friend at the end of June and reflecting about who I am and where I stand in the world, I feel that my creative stream has been dammed up with detritus and have, therefore, been compelled to reconsider my current life circumstances by locating and removing the buildup that has caused this bottleneck. Only then can I begin to break the shit down and clear the way for future ambitions; they sure as hell don't involve working in retail.

It is even more apparent to me that it is time to grind. HARD. I'm over this Limbo phase of my life and am ready to progress into a more meaningful purpose. I need to start selling my art; not merely as a means to make money, but in order to clear the air of the old, stale ideas that have been cluttering my creative stream. By letting go of my old achievements can I make way for new and innovative goals.

I do enjoy seeing my own paintings on the walls of my apartment every day, but what exactly does this achieve for me as an artist? A constant reminder that I am, indeed, an artist? Perhaps it is a subconscious fondling of my own ego? Nope. Not anymore. None can appreciate art when it can be seen by no one.

I am, therefore, slapping some prices on a portion of my work in hopes that some good people might enjoy and want to own a piece or two. They will be appropriately priced on this website and shared over my Facebook art page.

If anyone is interested in whether a particular piece is for sale or to negotiate a price, message me here on the website or email me at: www.willwootenart@gmail.com.

Help me adorn the walls of your home!
:D

Just recently, I decided that I'm going to firmly implant myself into the social networking system by tapping into as many channels as I can, for better or for worse.  Sure, it seems long overdue, but while the Twitters and Tumblrs have been developing momentum over last few years, I've had to bide my time with them whilst otherwise inundated with projects at school and merely a Facebook account at my disposal to which I might post about what goes into my cup of coffee in the morning (which, by the way, is NOTHING.  I drink mine black).

Anymore, it seems that in order to expose one's elf as much as possible to the public without stripping down completely naked and running around the city, any artist, whether a painter, a graphic designer, or a musician for example, needs to be plugged in to this root system of information and updating incessantly about what's going in their neck of the woods.

That said, my music can be found at http://soundcloud.com/august-son, twitter at http://twitter.com/#!/wwoot and a Tumblr account fired up at http://thebestestasbestos.tumblr.com/.  Hopefully, they don't become too redundant, as I'm trying to tweak the connections between them all in order to update off of each other, one at a time.  So follow, listen, and look at some thoughts, tunes, and art that might not have otherwise seen the light of day.
